New Cooking Channel Show Stops By Bayou Teche Brewing ...
Arnaudville, LA ? Arnaudville?s Bayou Teche Brewing will be one of the showcased breweries in the upcoming Cooking Channel Special, Eat This Drink That. This section of the program will focus on two of the Bayou Teche Brewing?s beers, their passion fruit infused wheat beer Grenade (the Cajun French word for passion fruit and pronounced Gruh-nod), and their newest release, Biere Joi ? Mello Dubbel ? a Trappist style beer that the brewers have infused with local favorite Mello Joy Coffee.
Says Bayou Teche?s Dorsey Knott, ?We met noted authors and beer sommeliers, Hallie Beaune and Christina Perozzi during last year?s New Orleans on Tap beer festival. Well known as The Beer Chicks, we were excited when they introduced themselves at our brewery?s booth. We invited the duo out to our brewery for a tour and they showed up in Arnaudville the next day with a film crew from the Cooking Channel.?
The Beer Chicks are well known authorities in the craft beer community and their book, The Naked Pint is one of the standard reference books on craft beer. Eat This, Drink That, their new Cooking Channel show mixes their love of craft beer, with wine, mixed drinks, spirits, cocktails and everything food. The innovative show is a one-hour Cooking Channel special and the network?s website advertises that the Beer Chicks will travel the country visiting folks that are creating new rules for pairing food with drink.
Byron, one of the three Knott brothers behind Bayou Teche Brewing says that ?Hallie and Christina and the entire film crew showed up to our Arnaudville farm very early on a Sunday morning and our family had a large Cajun brunch laid out for them. The Beer Chicks and their crew were treated to live Cajun music and platters of boudin, smoked duck, home-made fresh goat cheese, beignets, grits, biscuits and a jelly made with Bayou Teche?s Grenade beer. Continues Knott, ?We introduced the crew from the Cooking Channel to some of the beer cocktails we created at our brewery. They enjoyed drinking several and filmed us mixing our LA-31 Pimm?s cup and also our Biere Mimosa ? which after several takes The Beer Chicks renamed the Man-mosa.?
Said Bayou Teche?s brewmaster Karlos Knott, ?After we finished with the brunch we showed the folks from the Cooking Channel how to make boudin, how to smoke a duck, and how to make beignets from scratch. They were very interested in trying a pairing of our new Mello Joy Coffee beer with hot from the fryer beignets ? and putting those two together was decadently wonderful. After brunch I walked with Hallie and Christina from our family?s outdoor kitchen to our still under construction new brewery. After showing them around, the three of us walked over to the old brewery and with my wife and fellow brewer Stephanie, our guests brewed a special batch of our passion fruit wheat beer. The ladies spiked it with extra passion fruit and hops.? Stephanie replied, ?After brewing the beer with Christina and Hallie, their crew loaded up the cameras and lights, and what was left in the keg of our Biere Joi Mellow Joy Coffee beer.?
Dorsey says that the brewery was notified last week that the episode of Eat This, Drink That containing footage from the show?s Arnaudville filming will premiere on March 4th at 8 pm Eastern time and again at midnight. The one hour special will also be rebroadcast on March 9th, 11th, 17th and 18th. Furthered Dorsey, ?We enjoyed entertaining the film crew from the Cooking Channel and the Beer Chicks at our Arnaudville home. We are looking forward to their first episode.?

The latest report focuses on consumer behavior across travel, entertainment, and cable/satellite services. According to Bundle data, the average American household spends $ 2,699 annually on travel and leisure.? Residents of Arlington, Va., are far above average, ranking highest overall in travel and leisure, spending an average of $ 5,615 per household in 2009. Breaking down the numbers, Arlington also tops the travel sub-category ($ 3,534), while people who live in San Jose spend the most on entertainment ($ 1,304), and residents of Raleigh spend the most on cable and satellite ($ 1,033).
The travel spending category includes airplane tickets, rental cars, hotels, cruises, taxis, buses, and other vacation infrastructure; entertainment covers tickets to sporting events, concerts and other live events, amusement parks, bowling alleys, and gambling; while cable and satellite includes TV and Internet.
?We were curious not just about who spent the most in these very discretionary categories, but about where the people who allocated a greater share of their budgets and income to fun stuff were spending less to make up for it.? says Janet Paskin, Bundle?s managing editor.
?It turns out that people who spend a lot of their money on travel, for instance, tend to sink less money into home maintenance, electronics, and charity, whereas those with big entertainment budgets afford all those tickets by spending less on their cars, their phone bills, and, yes, TV.?
Detroit, still feeling the effects of the recession, is listed at the bottom of sub-categories entertainment ($ 139) and cable/satellite (spending $ 219), but residents of the Motor City devote a disproportionately high percentage of their budgets to travel, compared to the average American household.

With the end of Oscars season, we say goodbye to awards shows for a few months. The spectacles honored the best in television, music and movies, and each handed out a good amount of hardware. But who put on the best show? Not all awards shows were created equal, and some get the benefit of live performances while some have to rest on the laurels of acceptance speeches.
As the 2011-2012 awards season comes to a close, the MTV News staff has taken a look back at the year that was to give you the breakdown on which shows earned standing ovations and which were just seat fillers.
The Academy Awards
"Another year, another reminder that the Oscars are no longer the can't-miss movie event they once were. Barring a surprise win for Meryl Streep and a fleeting hour where you thought that maybe, just maybe, 'Hugo' would topple 'The Artist,' the 2012 Oscars ceremony was a total dud. Yes, it was nice to see Billy Crystal back onstage; no, no one will complain about a cameo from Christopher Guest and friends; and sure, there is nothing that sucks about watching Sacha Baron Cohen spill 'Kim Jong Il's ashes' all over Ryan Seacrest. But those moments are why the Internet exists. As a whole and on its own, the 84th Annual Academy Awards were a giant, predictable snooze fest." C — Josh Wigler
The Grammys
"The Grammys are kind of like the Pu Pu Platter at the hip Chinese joint at the local strip mall: There's a bunch of the golden oldies your granny and mom love scattered among a bunch of weird new stuff that the grandkids can't get enough of. In other words, it tries to be all things to all people while typically turning off most of them. Except this year. The show drew near-record ratings thanks to a well-deserved sweep by Adele, a touching homage to just passed R&B superstar Whitney Houston and a grab bag of performances from the Foo Fighters, Chris Brown, Taylor Swift, Bruce Springsteen, Rihanna, Coldplay, Bruno Mars, Alicia Keys and Bonnie Raitt and that now-infamous messy EDM mashup thing. If that, along with two meh sets from ex-Beatle Paul McCartney and a mystifying one from Nicki Minaj sounds like the weirdest, least appealing festival lineup ever, well... And yet, host LL Cool J set an appropriately somber, not morbid tone for the show while keeping it moving, Jennifer Hudson absolutely nailed her Houston tribute and Adele simultaneously dragged the Recording Academy into the present while serving up just enough throw-back flavor to keep several generations happy." The Golden Globes
"There are many things to love about the Golden Globe Awards. First and foremost, it combines the best and brightest from the worlds of television and film, an interesting occurrence because for some strange reason the stars of TV and cinema don't regularly interact in the awards-show wilds. Second, there is a decidedly more laid-back air to the affair, made possible by the bottles and bottles of champagne that are handed out to attendees from the moment they arrive on the red carpet to the moment they depart. Third, the nominating body for the Globes is the mysterious Hollywood Foreign Press, the membership and qualifications about which no one really knows that much. This year's award show wasn't especially full of shocking surprises, but it definitely delivered on the fun factor. Ricky Gervais returned to host and managed to not offend too many celebs in attendance, save for one jab at Madonna that she playfully tossed back in his face; George Clooney and Seth Rogen both made penis jokes and on a more sincere note, deserving Best Actor winner and 'Game of Thrones' star Peter Dinklage used his acceptance speech to call attention to an injustice." "The SAGs get a lot of credit for their ability to predict the Oscar winners a month or so in advance. In other words, we don't want dying to become something we experience as a part of life. This would have made little sense to generations past. For centuries, what was feared most was "dying unprepared". Death was an opportunity to put things right. To say the things that had been left unsaid: "Sorry", "I was wrong", "I always loved you". We used to die surrounded by our extended family. Now we die surrounded by technology, with a belief in medical science often replacing the traditional puzzle of human existence.
A culture that keeps death out of sight and mind is one that is increasingly lost for words when comforting others in their grief. Instead of having that important conversation in the supermarket with the lady down the street who has lost her husband, we slip down the next aisle with the self-justifying thought that we do not want to disturb her

All of them, without a single exception, were people who died calmly, peacefully, indeed, serenely and happily, which was wonderful to see. I remember the very first dying people I ever visited in hospital: they were the sort of people who cheered you up with their radiant love of God and neighbour. It is some decades ago now, but I still remember them, and I particularly remember the way they so devotedly received Holy Communion in their hospital beds. I really do not mind dying, or the prospect of death, having seen so many people go through it so happily. All I want when I am dying ? I suppose I had better mention it just in case people don?t take it as read ? is the presence of a priest, who will administer Holy Communion (if possible) and the Sacrament of the Sick. And I also want to hear the prayers for the dying, particularly the wonderful words of the Final Commendation, along with the Apostolic Pardon.In case you do not know them, the Prayer of Commendation goes like this:
Go forth, Christian soul, from this world
in the name of God the almighty Father, who created you,
in the name of Jesus Christ, Son of the living God, who suffered for you,
in the name of the Holy Spirit, who was poured out upon you,
go forth Christian soul.

Hitting a fashion show? Crazy heels required (AP)
NEW YORK ? It's a blustery day ? February tends to be that way in New York ? and Marian Kihogo, a fashion stylist and blogger from London, is dashing from one runway show to another, from the tents at Lincoln Center to studios and galleries scattered around Manhattan.
As she strides by on her "architectural heels" by Nicholas Kirkwood for Peter Pilotto, the heels hollowed out for artistic effect, this reporter dares to suggest she might be more comfortable in running shoes.
She laughs. "Running shoes! That would be fashion suicide. I think the fashion powers-that-be would stone me!"
An exaggeration? Maybe just a bit. Kihogo is merely giving a colorful rendition of an unspoken rule at Fashion Week: It's all about the shoes. And we're not talking about the models. We're talking about the audience.
Never mind the snow, rain or sleet. Never mind the subway steps or those dashes for a cab. Never mind the long hours on one's feet. Most Fashion Week regulars wouldn't be caught dead without a pair of statement heels.
It's all a little intimidating for the uninitiated, who may find themselves panicking the first time they sit in the front row of a runway show. For us, the command, "Uncross your legs!" induces something akin to terror.
That's what the pack of photographers at the foot of the runway calls out to ensure their camera shots won't be ruined by a dangling foot. But it's also the moment that all eyes shift downward, and suddenly one's feet feel naked.
Scratch that. Bare feet would actually be better than a scruffy pair of booties with worn-down heels and cracked toes. (Sorry Aerosoles, they were lovely six years ago when I bought them.) Or, the Land's End children's rain boots your 11-year-old has grown out of, but still fit you.
Now, we don't mean to exaggerate. Sometimes you can find a pair of sneakers in the front row. Usually they're studded, perhaps part of an overall grunge look belonging to some handsome and hip young man, or to a woman on crutches. Although, last year, this reporter witnessed a woman on crutches at a fashion show, the injured foot in an orthopedic boot, the other in ... wait for it ... a stiletto.
"Wow," says an admiring Pamela Pekerman, who's covering fashion for AfterBuzz TV, hearing the anecdote. "That's going for it."
Pekerman thinks she's found a happy medium ? a pair of Brian Atwood heels in lavender that she bought on sale at Saks Fifth Avenue and swears are comfortable. "I could run for you right now, I really could," she says. We'll take her word for it.
"I've seen a lot of crazy shoes here that belong in the circus," Pekerman says. "People are wobbling around. But some girls, they just want to stick out." As she speaks, one such woman teeters behind her, stepping rhythmically but gingerly across Lincoln Center Plaza and over to 65th Street, where we pray the traffic light gives her enough time to cross.
Pekerman does have one little secret ? foot petals, basically soft pads you sneak into your shoes to provide a little cushioning. But some women, says one fashion insider, have another, darker secret.
"I know from experience that there are plenty of flats tucked away in tote bags," says Ken Downing, fashion director for Neiman Marcus, with a wink. "And sitting in the back seats of sedans." Let's face it, says Downing, "We all know what a beating Fashion Week can be on the feet."
Downing scans the front row of the Cushnie et Ochs runway show, where we're sitting. There's barely a flat in sight, though one woman he knows, suffering from a knee injury, has donned a pair of adorable studded sneakers.
But, Downing says, there's a good reason for all this. After all, the fashionistas who form most of the audience at runway shows ? buyers, stylists, major clients and of course celebrities ? have rather a duty to, well, take one for the team. (Easy for him to say.) "Listen," Downing says, "footwear is a true indicator of style, and where fashion is, and where it's going. We're an industry of image. So it's important that we do our part."
At a packed Fashion Week party a few nights earlier, Clement Z., as this stylist from Shanghai calls himself, is chatting with friends. Your eyes gravitate down to his feet. How can they not? They're brilliantly jeweled. He's wearing what he calls his Aladdin shoes.
"They're Armani, from the women's collection," he says. "I can do that because I'm just a size 39." (That's a size 8 for Americans.) Kudos to Clement ? they look great. And he knows it.
"Shoes are the most important part of the whole outfit," he says. "The wrong shoes can make the most expensive dress look cheap, and the right shoes can make the cheapest dress look expensive. I tell my clients: Buy the most basic outfits, but follow the trends of shoes every season."
Kyle Anderson couldn't agree more. We catch up with the accessories director for Marie Claire at the Phillip Lim show, an especially hip event peopled by indie musicians. He's wearing an extremely colorful pair from Prada. "All accessories, including shoes, are a million times more important than clothes," he says. "You can buy simple clothes, but you can't fake accessories."
On a frigid Sunday morning, on line outside the Catherine Malandrino show with the wind whipping off the Hudson River, is a woman who's definitely NOT faking the accessories.
A fashion outsider might look at the feet of Laetitia Chaix and think she is trying to emulate Chewbacca from "Star Wars." Yes, the Wookiee. That person would be wrong.
Chaix is actually wearing seriously chic Chanel fur boots. They would not be out of place at the South Pole (or on the planet Alderaan.) "I call them my grizzly boots," she says. "They were perfect for today. I don't get to wear them too much, because they are so hot."
In fact, muses Chaix, the boots are so hot, "one could wear them today with only a little bathing suit."

NEW YORK ? The British hip-hop artist M.I.A. has apologized to Madonna for making an obscene gesture during the Super Bowl halftime show, Madonna's spokeswoman said.
Madonna said in radio interviews on Friday that she had no idea M.I.A. would extend her middle finger during the performance in front of 114 million people, according to Madonna's spokeswoman, Liz Rosenberg. The singer didn't find out about it until after the show.
"I wasn't happy about it," Madonna told Ryan Seacrest in one interview. "I understand it's kind of punk rock and everything, but to me there was such a feeling of love and good energy and positivity, it seemed negative."
She said it was like something a teenager would do.
"It seemed out of place," she said.

Saadi Gaddafi warns of uprising in Libya: TV (Reuters)
TRIPOLI (Reuters) ? Muammar Gaddafi's son Saadi warned on Friday of an imminent uprising in Libya, saying he was in regular contact with people in the country who were unhappy with the authorities put in place after the ousting and killing of his father.
Speaking to Al-Arabiya television by phone - the first time he has spoken publicly in months - Saadi said he wanted to return to Libya "at any minute" after escaping across the border to Niger when National Transitional Council forces captured the capital Tripoli in August.
He said he was in contact from Niger with the army, the militias, the NTC and other members of the Gaddafi family. It was impossible to verify where he was calling from as the station showed only an old still picture of Saadi as a backdrop to his words.
"First of all, it is not going to be an uprising limited to some areas. It will cover all the regions of the Jamahiriya and this uprising does exist and I am following and witnessing this as it grows bigger by the day," he said, referring to Libya.
"There will be a great uprising in the south, in the east, in the centre and in the west. All the regions of Libya will witness this new popular uprising."
A transitional government appointed in November is leading the country to elections in June but is struggling to restore services and impose order on myriad armed groups.
These groups fought hard in the campaign to topple Gaddafi but still refuse to hand in their weapons.
The government lost control of the former Gaddafi stronghold of Bani Walid last month after local people staged an armed revolt, posing the gravest challenge yet to the NTC's authority.
However elders in the desert city dismissed accusations they wanted to restore the late dictator's family to power or had any ambitions beyond their local area.
Saadi told Al-Arabiya: "The Libyan people should revolt against these militias and against this deteriorating situation. The NTC is not a legitimate body ... and is not in control of the militias," he added. "We call on all to be ready for the coming uprising."
"We have to exert pressure to change this situation and to remove this evil doing that exists in Libya. We do not know any such thing as elections. We are a Muslim nation," he said.
ANNIVERSARY
Government officials were not immediately available for comment. Mohammed al-Alagy, former interim justice minister and who now heads the human rights council, told Al-Arabiya Saadi's comments were "an attempt to drive a wedge between the Libyan people."
Saadi, a businessman and former professional footballer, said he was in contact with people in Libya. Interpol last year issued a "red notice" requesting member states to arrest Saadi with a view to extradition if they find him in their territory.
"I have daily communications with Libya from Niger and these contacts are not just to start the uprising but also to follow up the status of our tribes, our relatives and the people," he said.
"The situation of the people is deteriorating. I am in contact with the militias, the tribes, the NTC and the national army. I can confirm that more than 70 percent of those who are in Libya now whether they support the February 17th (revolution) or not, all are not satisfied with the situation and are ready to cooperate to change this situation."
Libya is preparing for the first anniversary of the start of the February 17 uprising which began in the eastern city of Benghazi. Libyan armed forces chief Yousef al-Mangoush this week said there were concerns for potential sabotage of the anniversary by Gaddafi loyalists.
"A large number of February 17th members do regret this and we are now in full cooperation with the February 17th and our supporters to change this deteriorating situation," Saadi said. "As for my return, yes I must return to Libya and this will happen at any minute. If I do return I will prevent any revenge."
Saadi said he was also in contact with his family members. Gaddafi's wife Safiya, his daughter Aisha and his sons Mohammed and Hannibal fled to Algeria in August. Saadi's brother Saif al-Islam was captured in the Sahara desert in November and is now being held in the town of Zintan.
"I am in contact with my family inside and outside Libya and in the neighboring countries and in Europe," Saadi said.
"I call on all the elders, the youth, the militias and the tribes to come and to sit with each other and to negotiate with each other and to come up with a true reconciliation."
Mexican authorities said in December they had uncovered and stopped an international plot to smuggle Saadi into the country using fake names and false papers.
